Topic: “Interoperability in the Small and Interoperability
in the Large”
Speaker: Dr Eric Burger, Chairman of the Board, SIP Forum;
Formerly Deputy CTO of BEA Systems
Abstract
The foundation of the Internet is Internet-scale
interoperability. One achieves interoperability by
developing protocols that adhere to principles that foster
interoperability, including well-known extension mechanisms.
In addition, one achieves interoperability by testing
implementations against each other to find implementation
errors and specification errors. In this address, we present
the efforts of the SIP Forum in fostering protocol
interoperability testing, such as the SIPit and SIPConnect
certification as well as focusing industry resources on
closing interoperability problems in the SIP specifications.
In addition, we will discuss future directions for SIP and
the impact this will have on the communications industry.
