Abstract
Business forces are driving all organizations to
implement unified communications infrastructure. IBM has
been implementing converged communication and collaboration
projects both internally and externally for 8 years. Now
industry standards and product cycles have matured to point
of allowing larger-scale and broader adoption of integrated
solutions.
This session intends to provide insight into customer and
project experiences to highlight a strategy, technologies,
and tactical actions necessary for successful
implementations looking at:

Architecture for a highly available and cost effective
system
-
Single desktop user experience, from Sametime or Notes
-
Approaches and considerations for implementation,
including mobile/wireless and social networking
-
Areas of business impact, ROI and most beneficial
business aspects
We will also provide an update into initial experiences both
internally and with alpha customers for IBM's new unified
telephony middleware that allows various vendor IP telephony
infrastructure to be integrated into one common Sametime
desktop user experience.
Speaker Biography
Mr Fred Clarke, Business Development Executive, IBM
Currently, a business development executive in IBM
Global Technology Services focusing on Unified
Communications and Collaboration Solutions with Cisco and
key partners. Fred splits his time with customers
considering and planning UCC solutions and with
implementation teams worldwide who are integrating Lotus
Collaboration and Cisco IP infrastructure. Most recently,
Fred's focus has been on helping customers with identifying
appropriate vertical solutions and its resulting business
impact and returns.
Dr Zhao Yixin, Research Staff Member, Converged Network,
IBM China Research Lab
Yi Xin got his Ph.D. from Dept of Computer Science,
Tsinghua University in 2002. Now he is a Research Staff
Member in IBM China Research Lab (CRL), focusing on unified
communication and collaboration. Yi Xin has been leading a
small team to design, develop, test and deliver solutions
upon customer and market requirements. Collaborating with
IBM GTS, CRL team has deployed solutions and provided
customer support world wide, and was awarded by IBM to
recognize technology innovation, business impact and
consolidation of effective IBM Cisco alliance.<back>
